By accessing or using any of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (the “College”) Internet properties including, without limitation,,, and any others released by the College from time to time (collectively referred to as the “College Web sites”) you agree to comply with and be bound by the College’s Privacy Statement and the College’s Terms and Conditions of Use (“Terms of Use”) that is incorporated herein by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Statement, you must immediately terminate use of the College Web sites.

Information Collection and Use– Collection, retention, and use of personal information may occur if member and non-member users interact with the College Web sites, by either registering with the site or participating in one of the College’s services. Member users may be required to provide their name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, College member id number, and/or other identifying information. This information is used to verify status with the College membership database and to respond to inquiries and/or requests. Non-member users may be required to provide an e-mail address, in order for the College to respond to inquiries and/or requests.

The College may use e-mail addresses provided by member users to notify them of upcoming events from College and District and Section news and events. Member users are able to opt-out or change their preferences for receiving such information at any time.

Use of Cookies and IP Address– Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser on your computer, which are used to aid in web navigation.  The College Web sites use session cookies. When member users log onto the College Web sites, an identifier is temporarily created and placed in their computer’s memory so the member user can access the members-only pages using their e-mail address and password. The cookie contains no personal information and is self-terminated upon exiting the browser.

A unique number called an IP address identifies each computer on the Internet. Each time users connect to the Internet, their computer is assigned an IP address. When member and non-member users connect to the College Web sites, the IP address is stored for statistical purposes.  This information is used for understanding how users interact with the College Web sites.

Public Forums– The College Web sites make public forums and discussion boards available to member users. Please remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes public information and member users should exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information. The College cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted in the public forums.

External Links– The College Web sites contain links to other external websites that do not fall under its domain. The College is not responsible for the privacy practices and the content of such external websites.

Third Party – The College may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to 1) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process served on the College, 2) protect and defend the rights of property of the College, or 3) protect the personal safety of the College personnel or members of the public in urgent circumstances.

The College reserves the right to amend the Privacy Statement at any time for any reason. This Privacy Statement only applies to information collected by the College through the College Web sites.

Advertisements on our Web sites –Online advertisements on the College Web sites do not collect any personally identifiable information on individual visitors. The College does collect nonmedical aggregate data on visitors such as time of day and Web browser type. Such information may be shared with advertisers to determine their advertising effectiveness.

Children under 13 –We do not knowingly solicit data online from or market online to children under the age of 13.

No guarantee –Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, and despite our efforts, the College cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, or to or from our online products or services.

Permission to reproduce College publications must be sought well before the expected publication date of your document. You must submit a written request containing the following information:

  • Precise citation of the document or selection you wish to reprint
  • Title and publisher of your publication
  • Means by which your publication will be distributed (e.g., included in a book, a patient education packet, handouts to students, etc.)

Permissions are typically granted to reproduce selections of current College materials based on the following conditions:

  • Full credit to the source is shown as indicated in the permission granting letter.
  • The information must be reproduced without modification, with the exception of style and format changes.
  • Permission is given for one-time use and does not extend to electronic rights, subsequent editions, or foreign translations.
  • Permission is contingent on payment of a fee of $100.00 per selection.

Permissions are not granted to reproduce College material in any of the following circumstances:

  • Use of all or most of a publication (e.g., an entire Patient Education Pamphlet, a chapter from a book, or a form)
  • Electronic reproduction of material in any form
  • Use of material that is not original with the College (the original publisher must be contacted)
  • Reproduction of a document that has been withdrawn from circulation

Permission is not required for use in a descriptive article written about a College publication (e.g., book review) or for any other use permitted by law.


Permission is not necessary to make up to 5 photocopies of a College document for one’s personal use.

Reporting Copyright Infringements

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, signed into law on October 28, 1998, amended the copyright law to provide limitations for service provider liability relating to material online. Subsection 512(c) of the copyright law provides limitations on service provider liability with respect to information residing, at direction of a user, on a system or network that the service provider controls or operates, if the service provider has designated an agent for notification of claimed infringement by providing contact information to the Copyright Office and through the service provider’s publicly accessible website. 17 U.S.C. 512(c).
The College has designated an agent to receive notification of alleged copyright infringement occurring in any domain owned by the College. Proper notification must include the following elements:

  • A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.
  • Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information, reasonably sufficient to permit the College to locate the material.
  • Information reasonably sufficient to permit the College to contact you, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which you may be contacted.
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
